Pure Breed
Dog Rescue Groups

The Best Option for Fans of Specifc Breeds

Two Dobermans

Pure breed dog rescue groups are committed to rehoming pure breed dogs. Some of these groups are national organizations with regional chapters. Many pure breed rescue groups are quite small and are run by individuals who are in love with the breed. Some people find themselves drawn to a particular breed of dog. Fanciers of a breed have always had that breed and will always have that breed as part of their family.

Sometimes a specific breed becomes popular or trendy because of a movie or media coverage. When a breed experiences sudden popularity, the puppies don't always end up in homes they are best suited for. Fans of the TV show "Frasier" went out and got a Jack Russel Terrier with the expectation that their dog would be just like Eddie. The Disney movie, "101 dalmations" had children begging for dalmations. Parents brought home the cute puppy for their child without ever researching the breed. Popularity is not always desireable. In many cases, the rise in a breeds popularity brings a rise in the breeds population at your local shelter.

Please keep in mind that each dog is unique. There are hyper Golden Retrievers and very mellow Golden Retrievers. There are dominant or aggressive German Sheppards and there are very docile or submissive German Sheppards.

Do some research on the breed you are interested in. Find the breed that is the best match for you. When you know the breed you are looking for, contact a rescue group for that breed. A reputable pure breed dog rescue organization will interview you and get to know your family. They will only allow you to adopt the dog if they feel you are a good match. Always make sure to find the dog that is right for you, not just the breed that is right for you.
