Rescue Me Updates
Dog Adoption Follow-Up for Our Profiled Black Dogs
The "Rescue Me" section of the Black Dog Rescue Project home page highlights homeless black dogs that need loving forever homes. The dogs that are chosen for the home page are dogs that are at high risk for being euthanized or living in temporary homes for far too long. These are typically dogs in the state of Utah that are residing in a shelter or foster home.
When these dogs are profiled, we have no way of knowing if the outcome will be a loving forever home or if the story will end in a heartbreaking loss. Our hope and desire is that by posting these dogs on the home page, they will have a chance at beating the odds and that someone will fall in love with them and bring them home.
With so many sad stories and so many homeless dogs, it is difficult to pick and choose just one. However, by selecting and focusing on one dog at a time, we hope to increase that dogs chance for a happy ending. This is also in keeping with our motto...
"If you can't save all dogs, then save just one."
Here you will be able to see what happened to the "Rescue Me" dogs at Black Dog Rescue Project. This is the rest of the story...

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Trigger!
We are overjoyed to report that this sweet boy now has a home of his own to live out the rest of his days. After 17 long months in rescue and foster care, Trigger is home. His foster mom, Jill, placed another ad in the local paper and pointed folks to our site for more information and a pic. We are thrilled that we were able to help Trigger finally find his forever home. Welcome Home Trigger!

Safe but Not Yet Home...
Beautiful Blue is home, but he can't stay for long. Blue only ended up at the shelter because the city that Blue lives in does not allow more than two dogs per household. There are three dogs in blue's home. When Blue's time was up at the shelter, his family couldn't stand the thought of him not making it out alive. They were able to save his life and bring him home until they can find a new family for him.
If you think that Blue would be a great addition to your family, please contact the Ogden Shelter and they can give you the contact information for Blue.

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Laney!
Sometimes it takes a village... Laney certainly had a lot of people working to save her. Thanks to great effort on the part of many caring volunteers, Laney will soon be home. She is currently out of the shelter and will be in foster care for a couple of weeks before she makes it to her forever home.
Thank you to everyone that helped save this sweet girl. Laney will soon be HOME!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Aphrodite!
Aphrodite had a very close call when she began to show signs of kennel cough. This common cold can quickly spread and can be devastating to dogs in shelters. At the time that Aphrodite was listed as "day to day", a young professional couple came in looking for a companion for their lab. Aphrodite turned out to be the perfect fit for them. Welcome Home Aphrodite!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Boomer!
A young woman in the area who is recently out on her own decided it was time to add a four-legged companion to her family. She heard about Boomer and after meeting him, knew that he was the right fit for her. We are certain the two of them will be the best of friends and share many happy memories in the years to come. Welcome Home Boomer!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Tig!
It was a very close call for Tig. She was scheduled to be euthanized on Friday, April 30, but with the help of our local Pack Member volunteers we were able to take her to a PetsMart adoption event Friday evening to give her one last chance.
A local family was shopping for their Chihuahua at PetsMart friday night and they were drawn to Tig. They walked her around the store and began to fall in love. After hearing her story, they knew that they wanted to add her to their family. They took Tig home with them and Tig was given a much deserved second chance.
On Saturday morning, one of our volunteers got a phone call from Tig's new family. They told us that she settled right in at their home and slept at the foot of their bed all night. They were already madly in love with this special girl.
Welcome Home Tig!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Taffy!
On Saturday, April 17, a local family came to the shelter in search of a furry companion. They had a cat at home and wanted to bring home a dog that would fit well in their home. Taffy turned out to be the perfect fit. We are certain that Taffy will become best of friends with her feline sibling and her new family. Welcome Home Taffy!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Carlos!

In Loving Memory...
We are heartbroken with the news that after many days waiting to find her forever home, our sweet mama dog Parsley developed kennel cough. This young dog with an unkown past never got a chance to know what it felt like to be part of a loving family. Parsley never made it out of the shelter. She was humanely euthanized a few weeks after her arrival. Parsely, I am so very sorry that we were not able to help you find the home that you deserved. You have left a paw print on my heart and I will remember your sweet kisses on my cheek.

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Oakie!
On Tuesady, March 2nd, a local couple stopped by the shelter, looking for the right dog for their young family. They were excited to bring home Oakie and are happy to have been able to change his luck. Oakie now has a bright future to look forward to and a feline companion to bond with. Welcome Home Oakie!

Safe But Not Yet Home...
Happy-go-lucky Rusty is a happy boy today because he is safe. The shelter was able to keep Rusty much longer than originally planned. They kept Rusty as long as they did, because they saw the same wonderful potential in him that we did. The shelter was also instrumental in getting a local Lab rescue group to come forward and agree to save Rusty. Today, Rusty is in their care and is waiting to find his forever home.

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Ebony!
A local family recently lost their 12 year old terrier mix to cancer. When they were ready to add a new dog to their family, they began looking at area shelters. They came across Ebony on Petharbor and drove to the shelter to meet her. Mom, Dad and their 7 year old son all fell in love with Ebony and decided that she was the perfect dog for their family. Welcome Home Ebony!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Bartle Bee!
A family from West Jordan saw our ad for Bartle Bee and decided to make the 50 mile drive to come and meet him. The family has children who are ages 10 and 12 as well as a much loved lab mix. They felt the time was right to add a new member to their household and Bartle Bee won their hearts. Welcome Home Bartle Bee!

But, our sweet boy did get a second chance when a young couple with small children came to the shelter looking for the perfect dog for their family. They had recently lost their Pit Bull due to illness and were very familiar with the breed. They also knew that Elvis had no time left and they were his last hope. After spending time with him, the whole family felt that Elvis was the perfect fit for their family. Welcome Home Elvis!

RESCUE ME Welcome Home Sparky!
When Sparky's time was about to run out on January 12, 2010, the Utah Humane Society volunteered to take him in. The Utah Humane Society was able to reach one of their goals for 2009 and did not have to euthanize any adoptable dogs. We are very happy to know that our fabulous Sparky is safe for a time until his forever family is found. If you are interested in adopting this wonderful dog, please contact the Utah Humane Society located in Murray, Utah at 801-261-2919.
UPDATE: A young man read our KSL ad about Sparky. He contacted us to learn more about this special dog. He felt that Sparky would be a good fit for him and was willing to wait until Sparky was in full health and available for adoption through the Humane Society. Digger - We learned that the original owner of Digger and Buddy was very torn about giving up his dogs. Because he loved them both dearly and was no longer in a position to be able to keep both dogs, he decided to give them both up instead of make a decision between the two of them. As soon as he learned that Buddy had found a new home, he returned to the shelter to officially adopt Digger and bring him home once again. Welcome Home Digger!

In Loving Memory...
We are heartbroken and deeply saddened by the news that time ran out for Milly. She was such a sweetheart with a world of potential, but unfortunately, no one chose to bring her home. The shelter is full and Milly had been waiting too long. This beautiful girl was humanely euthanized on January 4, 2010.
